About
Koinonia Cooperative House is a privately certified house at the University of Illinois, but we also accept Parkland College Students. Because of the reciprocal housing agreement with the university, most UIUC students are able to switch over to Koinonia mid-year without penalty, if done by the deadline which us usually mid-November.
So what exactly is "cooperative living"?
As a cooperative house, each resident has certain responsibilities to keep the house a comfortable and enjoyable place to live. We cook our own meals every day except lunch & dinner on Sundays. Each resident will serve the house approximately 5 hours a week with either cooking prep or cleaning up in accordance with each individual resident's class schedule. Because housework is evenly shared between all residents, the price of living at Koinonia House is roughly two-thirds of the cost of the University residence halls. A cleaning service does weekly cleaning of the bathrooms and common living areas.
